Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Migration to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023

This BIS notification explains the transition to the new IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 safety standard for certain electronic products. If your business already has a BIS licence under the old standards (IS 13252 or IS 616), your licence number will stay the same after you migrate to the new standard. You can keep separate licences for different product categories, and each licence will need to migrate individually. Products that meet the new standard must display the BIS Standard Mark as per the updated labelling rules.

During the transition period, you can still renew your licence under the old standards until November 1, 2028. However, after this date, all new applications must follow the new IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 standard. If you do not complete the migration by the deadline, your licence or specific product models could be cancelled or removed. Testing for compliance must be done at BIS-recognized labs, and you need separate test reports for each manufacturing location. Critical components must also comply with the new standard, not just the old ones.

There is no fee for migrating already registered models if you use the standard revision process. You can test components and end products in parallel, and manufacturers are allowed to start testing before submitting their migration application.
