MeitY migrates electronics safety standard to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023, adds Extended Reality products

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has migrated the applicable safety standard for a wide range of electronics products from IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 and IS 616:2017 to the newer IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 standard, since the older standards have been superseded.
The notification also adds a new product category, Serial No. 65, "Extended Reality Products" — covering augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality devices — under the new IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 standard.
For Extended Reality products, the older standards may continue to be used alongside the new one until 1 May 2026. For all other affected product categories, this concurrent-use window runs until 1 November 2028, after which the older standards will be withdrawn.
